Post Whores Make Me Sick
So some of you know that I've got a Bulldog Security remote starter / keyless entry module in my truck that I installed a while back. Well this was one of my first projects (back when I didn't know a muffler from a headlight) and needless to say my wiring was umm.... well it looked like a tangled hammock.
Well regardless of how it LOOKED, it worked great for the last ~2 years. Until a couple months ago when I went to grab something from my truck and I pressed the unlock button and the horn honked... huh? It never did that before. Put the key in the ignition and heard a pop noise under the dash-- then the keyless entry and remote start were completely dead
So I ordered the same unit on eBay, brand new (actually is was a new revision of the same unit). Yesterday I yanked out all my crappy wiring and redid the the install with the new unit/wiring. Took the old unit apart and sure enough, the circuit board had bubbled and burned up solder and traces all over
So I got it all hooked up and hooked the battery back up. Remote start worked great, first try! WOO! Door unlock-- GO! ehh.... Door unlock-- GO! .... The headlights flashed but the locks didn't even try to move
Probed a few wires and checked my work, it was all where it was supposed to be
Gave up and called Bulldog Tech support today. Surprisingly enough, they've been rather helpful in the past (with my previous install). I was on campus when I talked to them so the guy told me what to do when I get home-- "probe ___ wire and press lock, you should get +12v. Then probe ____ wire and press unlock, you should get 12v again. If not, switch the white and red wires."
Got home and did what he said. Sure enough the wires were backwards (in my truck... not my fault). It's as if the guy were working on my truck himself! He diagnosed the problem first try!
So I just wanted to write this thread to commend Bulldog Security. They've got a great product (I LOVE this remote starter... I wouldn't have bought the same one again if I didn't love it), and more importantly they've got awesome tech support and customer service. If you're in need of keyless entry or remote starters, check out Bulldog Security.
