brake pedal adjustment

I need help with this problem. The brake pedal seems to far up towards me while im driving. It seems like it needs to be adjusted back so im not so unconfortable when having to sit in traffic constantly braking and pulling my foot so far up to brake. Any adjustments possible. It feels like a midget could even hit the brake pedal.

I'll take a look at mine when I get home... is it something so simple that you could just shim?

Well I doubt you could shim it unless you've got xx inches of pedal depression before pressure starts building in the lines... Otherwise shimming it down would be the same as pressing it with your foot... So you can imagine that shimming it would be like keeping the brakes partially depressed all the time.

Perhaps there is a way to adjust it, but I have a feeling it would be slightly more complicated. Is the brake pedal SUBSTANTIALLY closer to you than the accelerator? You sure you're not just sitting too close?

Slide your darn seat back. :p

Seriously, though...I don't think there's any easy, or even not-real-hard way to adjust the brake pedal. I think you'd have to modify the pivot mounting, and probably also move the master cylinder, too.

Even in fancy new cars with adjustable pedals, the gas and brake move together, so you've still got to pick your foot up the same amount to get off the gas and onto the brake.

It shouldn't be THAT much higher than the gas...few inches, maybe. I've never driven ANYTHING where it seemed like a big nuisance to pick my foot up onto the brake, though.

I did just have a brainwave. If your issue is that it's too far to pick your foot up from the gas to the brake, you may be able to take some slack out of the throttle cable and lift the gas pedal up. That would let you push the seat back and still be able to reach both pedals...

Not sure how the cable is attached to the pedal on those trucks, but I know on the Rangers if there's slack, you can "shim" it out pretty easily.

Same in these trucks. Slack in the cable would allow the accelerator to fall closer to the floor (farther from the driver). You can put a crimp connector on the excess cable (on the side of the pedal TOWARDS the driver) and it'll take some of the slack out.
