bought from estate sale

FIRST TIME FORD OWNER
Hello,
I just bought a 1990 f250 4x4. It has a 5.8l v-8. It was sitting for 3 months,
but fired up on the first turn of the key. The oil is dark, but it was full. The tires are ok. It was an old man's truck, with 78k miles on it. It is rough
around the tailgate, which no longer closes. It has some squeaks and
pops. And it is mine for $750.
Now what?
I have never owned a ford, never had any kind of v-8. Tell me some things
to check first. I already have oil change, wires, plugs, greasing, and break fluid on my
list.
The biggest truck I have ever owned was a 2003 S-10. This Ford is massive.
It's name is " Mater" and looks really good in my driveway

Welcome to the site. You may want to check out brakes , and lines. I found when i bought mine from sitting they break rather quickly. in a few weeks i had to replace all lines , also change the fuel filter.

it wouldn't hurt to get yourself a new stock paper air filter, especially if he lived on gravel. It might not hurt to see if the rear differential is leaking any fluid. You wouldn't want that rear end to go out. If it's a 4x4, then also on the front.

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the site!! smilieFordlogo

kendall,

Welcome to FTF.

Since the truck is new to you and you do not know the maintenance history i would also change belts, hoses, t-stat, flush cooling system, service transmission, change fluid in transfercase & axles, pull & grease 4WD hubs, test 4WD system to make sure it is working properly and rotate & balance tires.

This is something i would do to any vehicle that was new to me.
