blown spark plug!

rambler

New Shoes......
well another drama in the life of my beloved F250! going home last night after seeing my FIL who is in critical and in ICU in Independence MO, and dropping off my oldest daughter back at college in Parkville, about 30 miles from home.....

BANG... I knew exactly what happened, we blew the notorious right side spark plug! drove down to a gas station and waited 2 HOURS for triple A to come and tow us to the ford dealership in Warrensburg. I have never done a helicoil and its too dang cold to work on it in the cold outside, and now waiting on the damage... ARRRGGGGG!!!!

And I got a brand new set of motorcraft plugs that were just waiting to go in, when if would actually warm up some time this month...

I think it may hit 22 today! well wish me luck! I dont know the damage yet....

Just hope and pray you didn't damage an exhaust valve. It is going to sound like you have a really bad manifold leak when you fix the plug. I have had that happen 2 times outta the 5 times I have blown one.

Certain years didn't have very many threads in the aluminum heads, IIRC.

Yep they had what was called the 4 thread head. other years are threaded all the way through but some have the bad head design. I have since inserted ALL of my holes so as not to have a problem.

What have you inserted? the helicoil? just got the truck back from Ford, they also did the cruise control recall, but $645 later, I'm broke! and now check a new post for something totally different... :blah:

Same concept but mine are inserted from the piston side of the head and can't blow out. the have a flare on the end to seat them in the spark plug hole and look pretty nice.

i think they had that problem with all the 5.4s till they went to the 4 valve. i had 5 out of 8 on my 99 go. i fixed them all by myself. then i fixed one on my buddys mustang 4.6. hell id a charged you have of that and we would have both made out. i never had a problem with the one i fixed after i helicoiled them.

three years ago when i had my f150 i called ford and wanted to know if the replacement heads they had for it had the problem fixed. and so they ordered one in and when i went and looked at it only had three threads on it too. and they wanted like $800 per head
