best temp* thermostat for an carbed engine??

the engine came with an 192 but isnt that a bit high for an carbed engine??

wich is better? does it need one?

Kidding!!! I'ld go with about a 180*

Yes, it needs one!

Just a thought, but if you have electronic engine control you might have problems using a different temperature thermostat than the one those controls are calibrated to work with.

I read a engine master mag while back and there was a guy from one of these custom engine places like Engine Factory and Performance Unlimited.
And they said they won't pass a engine on their test stands if it runs any hotter then 150...
I have some videos of their engines running at 140 degrees...

i was thinking about the 160 one
I understand that it has a carb - what I was getting at is if there is any kind of electronic engine control (EEC IV?) the engine might not run properly if the coolant temperature is not within the range that the computer is calibrated for.

yup i know that.. under 180 * it runs in open loop... and over it in closed loop :)

I have the 160º and a Efan and my truck runs cool here in the West Texas summers and I drive like a raped bat outta hell.

I'm a big advocate for getting the lowest temp tstat available. A cool engine is a happy engine. I believe there's a 160* Robert Shaw unit available for the 302...if not, there's definitely a universal RS that would work.
