As with anything, careful is the name of the game. Automatics have 2 basic rules, keep everything clean, and dont force anything. Start at the convertor, and work your way back laying out everything in order. You can match up lip seals and gaskets as you go. Pay attention to the orientation of all snap rings, clips, and clutch packs.

Thanks I have found a good trans kit to buy locally. Can a shift kit be added in at the same time?

Yep. It generally goes in the valve body.

When installing the shift kit it has you remove clips, springs and valves be carefull not to let the clips or springs go flying they tend to be easily lost.
