all my luck is turnin

Got it from my dad. I know it'll fry the the comps on the newer stuff but that's how I was taught on these didn't know it'd hurt anything. Another why I learned was a screwdriver on the back of it and see if there's a pull or push I can't remember.

^^ I Know many of the tricks Tyler...along with the risks involved in this field..But we have to promote safe working conditions here at FTF..there are many here that do not have the mechanical experience...we wouldnt want anyone to get hurt or worse from old school methods..

I understand. I'm not big on the electrical components don't know what proper methods to use. Just what I've learned from my dad who is old school when it comes to mechanics

I'm going to school next fall for automotive "tech" and will probably get certified in transmission/axles after I'm certified in engines. Maybe someday ill even learn body and paint.

I highly encourage you to do so Tyler get that certification....I never could afford to update my schooling working as a service station mechanic....it just didnt pay the bills so to speak..but i loved every minute of it...and still do on the older stuff...

I have always dreamed of becoming a mechanic and getting my own shop opened up.. Get certified in everything I can when I can. I couldn't imagine doing anything else other than maybe marines or something along the lines of state patrol.

I even enjoy working on motorcycles and snowmobiles as much as I do my truck. That could be why I'm broke and can't afford my truck anymore :hammer:

alternator replacement

when i replace the alternator should i also get a new voltage regulator? and if i do that i might as well put on a new plug also. right?

also theres the yellow or orange wire running into and back out of the plug. it has a connector on it its that important and what does it go to?

there was no shorts anywhere wires all looked good

I would suggest replacing the regulator as well Tyler...IF all the wires at the plug look good and not corroded..ide leave it be and go for it..

they are corroded thats why i was going to replace the plug but i figured i might as well spend the extra 30 or 40 on the regualtor as well if everything else was replaced. the only things electrically in the engine bay that haven't been replaced is the regulator, starter, and alternator.

The regualtor replacement is cheap insurance...they dont cost that much...if memory serves me correctly..mine was around 20 bucks if that....since the plug is corroded ide replace it with a new pigtail unit..
