Anybody have suggestion as to an air cleaner? I can't imagine there being too many differences between brands, but it doesn't hurt to research.

All depends. Are you looking to just replace the stock filter? OR go with something different? Here is my K&N filter which is higher than normal.

I still have this filter, but this picture is from my old engine. My new engine is black.

Definitely not the stock the stock filter... I'm open for anything aftermarket.

Do they have connections for what ever vacuum lines that are on the current filter setup?

No. The only vacuum line on mine was for that warm air flap, but it wasn't even hooked up anyway on mine. Do you have more than that?

Well, I have several lines, but I'm not sure exactly what they are... :D

Hmmm I'm not sure. Probably some kind of emission stuff that you don't need.

Most likely. It's a 351m, so it has all of the smog goodies. :headbang:

I've been meaning to stop by the parts store and get a book, but I've been busy with nothing lately. :)

I usually just go with a top shelf air filter. I dunno if it actually does any extra filtering, but the extra couple of bucks is worth my peace of mind. I've got an open element 14x3 setup at the moment. Pretty standard stuff.

Only line that should have to be plugged is the one from the valve cover to the cleaner. I just threw a breather in it's place though.

I pulled most the stuff off my Bronco...but there are still a few things I'm not sure what they do...so they're staying put until I really feel like doing a little more digging.

I'd be really interested in seeing that book or at least getting a title of it so I can complete my statement above.

I can scan the pages later for you Ben if I get a chance. It shows blocking a few lines and adjusting the timing accordingly. I'll try to scan the 351m and 400 pages later.

Appreciate it, I think I have all the right things blocked or removed...but there are a few extra pieces still lying around that I'm sure are part of the smog setup, but I just wanna make sure before I clean up the bay.

where you live, I would stay with the original air cleaner.

Wix or Motorcraft

Ben here are the pages. The book was written in 1974 so it may not have exactly what you have, but I'm sure it can help someone.

Thanks for the post Sean...I have all that covered...so I'm good to go. The only thing I have left that I believe to be smog related is like a white plastic canister in.on the inner frame rail in the engine bay. The only thing still connected to it is a tube that goes the length of the frame to the top of the gas tank. I dunno if it's still connecting to the gas tank, but I'm not gonna check until the tank needs to be dropped. Does anyone know the actually name for this piece of equipment?

I don't know what that is. I thought the only thing that had a line going to the tanks was the charcoal canister. Never saw a white one though.
