adding non factory tach

I have the 86 diesel IDI in my 1984 F350 and it has no tach!
It has oil pressure guages and alt. chg guage.
Can someone tell me where to wire the tach to?

It would require a sensor threaded into the injection pump housing, and then the dash tach. For aftermarket, they generally read off of the alternator.

Thanks for the reply ! It has a sensor there but I have aftermarket so if it connects to altenator what does it connect to on the alt?

It hooks into the wiring I think. Never done one, but it reads the pulses from the alternator, and somehow you calibrate it to the rpm.
