since project cobra's bed is rusted true when that 5.0 sits in the and i rip true the gears i bet the sides will rattle so hard it will look like a nascar lol

nway the truck is a 1989 long bed.. but i have a short fiberglass flareside bed laying around from a 1992 ford can the chasis be shortened buy a profesional and fit the bed? or any other ideas??

i know the driveshaft has to be shortened as well.. wires and brake lines are easier things to do

i know its cheaper to find a better bed but its just a question and i problaby wont do it.

Umm, if the bed is rusted through then i'd just find another bed.
Be allot cheaper and allot less hassle..

Yea you can shorten the frame. They did it on Trucks on Spike. You have to make a special cut, and then fishplate it. They make Chris' shorbed a crew cab, so you can also go the other way.

It's possible...but unless you REALLY want a shortbed (*cough*TexasNomad*cough*), I think it would be a whole lot easier and cheaper to just find a better long bed. Selling the shortbox you've got should offset at least a decent chunk of the expense of the new bed, too.

Yeah...I was looking up some costs for Tex when he had this same crazy idea. It was something along the lines of cutting the frame, notching it and fish plating. Prices I came up with were anywhere from $2-4000. It would just be cheaper and easier finding a replacement bed.

I can get the frame cut for about 300+ bucks! BUT! getting the bed shortened is going to be about 3500+! Yikes!! sheet metal work is pricey.

Hey Tex, i got a shortbed smilieneenar
But it all depends on if you want a short bed or not. Also another thing to consider is the mounting points on the bed that you have and if they'd match up or if you'd have to make brakets they'd attach to.....

Just put the bed on the frame aligned correectly and build a metal toolbox between the cab and bed front. changing the chassis would be a pain in the arse.
