A better price on rear tank filler hoses?

Hi all,

I know this has been discussed before, but in truth, I'm just too lazy and time deprived to search. So, for my 1977 F250, has anyone found a better priced hose set than Jeff's Bronco Graveyard here: http://broncograveyard.com/bronco/i-20340-rear-filler-neck-hoses-1973-79-truck.html $50 seems really high for a couple pieces of hose to me. In addition, which would be easier, lower the tank or lift the bed? Either way seems like a pain to me, especially since Burt has a frame mounted trailer hitch in the way.
Thanks for your responses!

What we did on a non Ford truck was purchase a universal radiator hose of the diameter that fit the fuel tank and steel filler neck and used that. We did that 4yrs and some months ago and it still works today. Cost-less than $15

The sad part is that no matter who you buy it from, its made by Dennis Carpenter, and the prices are essentially the same. I found it was easier to lower the gas tank, because it had to be a one-man job. And yes, I had to first remove the hitch receiver because the hitch stuck out past the side of the frame rail just enough to not have clearance to lower the tank. I also had to remove the large screw for the spare tire carrier.

It seems like the tank was easier to get out than to put back in. It is also easier to mount the fuel filler hoses BEFORE you put the tank in place. Cover the ends of the hose with duct tape to keep the shtuff out of the tank while you are trying to put it in place.

I was advised not to use radiator hose. Short term, it will work, but I think longterm, the rubber will become brittle and crack.

Thanks guys.. guess it's hitch/gas tank removal time! I already removed the spare tire hardware though.

As for using a radiator hose rickpilgrim, I always thought that the hoses for gas were a different material than those for the radiator? The other problem is that it goes in between the bed and the frame, so there is a flat section that is formed in the hose at that point. Not sure if a regular hose would be able to form itself to that area well enough to not kink or block flow.. In any event, thanks for your replies!

Dak,

The new filler hose is not flattened like the old ones, but the hoses do come with a U-shaped piece of metal that fits over the hose to flatten it and protect if from the frame/bed.

Fatherdoug,
Oh... thanks for that I didn't know and the picture on JBG shows the metal already on it and flattened. Guess I'll just suck up and buy it.. and get to work this weekend.

I didnt have any trouble dropping my rear tank, with the hitch still on. Even if I had to drop the hitch its not but 6 bolts.
I dropped mine about a year ago, and havnt put gas in it yet.
