Hey everyone, its been a while since I have been around. been busy with the typical farmer spring time work.

Anyway, I was out fencing (fixing broken fences, not swords) with my truck (351) It was parked and just idling while I was working, and then it just shut off. Didnt sputter or anything. Just like you turned the key off. So, I went to start it back up and it wouldnt fire. So, I just let it sit for about 15 minutes and then tried again and it fired right up like nothing had happened.

Any ideas?

less than 3K on the coil, also the plugs and wires, rotor and cap. All MSD except the coil, which was MSD but it crapped out at 500 miles, then i put a stock one in.

Hows it going Chris? Is there a wheeling pics thread for your truck? :)

Hmph. Well then you've got me stumped. Maybe a clog in your fuel system? When's the last time you changed the fuel filter?

Me? I'm good :) Yeah the only wheeling pics are the snow trip pics. Did you see those before you took a hiatus? Here's the thread-- the story and pictures start on post 86.

And also I towed the boat down to the lake this last weekend :) My truck is gettin' some action lately!

I saw the boat thread, I thought you were taking it to the desert, did that happen?

Hmm... I have neglected the fuel filter. I will have to get on that. Since that one time it has been fine. It did sit for a year in my garage without being started while I was overseas. put a new battery in it and it fired right up, though. :)

ok, cool cool. Like I said before, I need a pic with daylight under at least one tire. more tires = more props. ;)

Low battery charge + insufficient alternator?

no, sorry, the putting a new battery in it took place in january when I got back from Iraq. Everything was fine since then, until the fencing incident. Sorry if I am mixing people up.

The battery drained while I was gone, then froze over winter. It was shot.

Is the alternator working properly?

Seems pretty improbably that the truck would just up and die while idling like that. And if it did, it should at least try to fire while cranking the starter.

Alternator is working fine, no battery issues after I replaced the dead one in January.

Do you routinely let it idle, or was this out of character for the normal operation of the pickup?

nothing abnormal, I had been driving it around, it had idled for about 5 minutes when it shut off.

I woulds be looking at the Ignition control module!!!

If that's it then replace the sensor in the distributor at the same time!!!

is it really 82 degrees there? Its below freezing here and was snowing all day. And to think that ND has a higher record temperature than TX does. :)

Got any more info on that module you mentioned?

Well if the MSD coil died that soon .(They usually pretty good.) The stock may have also .

But Check and for spark at plugs . Will at least show where to start . IE coil ,

A bad alt will brain battery but truck would run on jumpers till removed.

Also check for power to coil and connections . I gave had a ecu die just them same way .

That whole coil shenanigans was in 2007. before I went over seas.

It has spark now. Maybe i need to clarify a bit, I am usually not very good with words.

It died once, one time, then would not start for 15 minutes. After that 15 minutes, it started, ran fine and has since then. That was a month ago.

I was just wondering if anyone knew what might have happened. The truck is running fine, now. :) Sorry for any misleading info.

Like radialarm said, I'd be looking at the module. I cant remember if its bolted to the distributor, or on the fenderwell. They are heat sensitive (mostly internal heat). Thats why it started after sitting for 15 minutes (it cooled off).
