When i get to 40 mph the rpm dont climb an it makes a loud hissing noise i dont know were to began to look. Can some one tell me what would cause this.

how high can in rev in park or neutral?..

if it revs higher than what it does at 40, i dunno.. the only thing that pops into my mind is bad valve springs or something limiting what it revs out at..

I had a catalytic converter do that . Went bad would basically plug up (restrict flow) . Basically sounded like hiss exhaust trying to get through .

Please post back when u find what was wrong with it .

Welcome to the site Jeremy! Which part of the truck is the hissing noise coming from? Can you rev as high as you want in neutral? What happens if you change to a lower/higher gear 40mph, any affect?

i have remove the cat an gut it then put it back on. I think i might be vac leak but which one? I wounder if the shift points in the transmission got mess up is that possible? An if so how do i fix it?

Pretty unlikely that the shift points have gotten messed up... Where does the hissing sound seem to come?

Do you know which transmission you have? If not-- can you count the transmission bolts for me? I'm thinkin maybe if you've got a vac controlled trans then maybe you've got a bad vac leak that is preventing shifts how many RPMs are you running at 40mph?
