92 f150 Tach

Ok guys what to do, what to do, when i start my truck the tach shoots up to 2000rpm and stays there all through the driving range and idle, what could possibly cause that???

And 2 should I just put in an aftermarket tach? if so do you splice it in to the tach wire off the coil, then ground it, and hook light up to an ignition power switch????

I'm not sure on how the factory tachs are wired, but I would try to fix it. Hopefully someone with a factory tach will stop by soon and offer some help.

had the exact problem, 92 xlt f150. remove the plastic shield from the instrument panel and give the tach a cleaning and move the pin pointer around and adjust it if you have too.be gentle with it. hope you remember your normal idle rpm. 800 maybe? its nothing.
