88 f250 4x4 high problems

Hey there,

I'm having some issues with the 4x4 shifting in my f250 4 speed auto. It seems to go into 4x4 high, low, neutral, and 2wd fine...according to the dash light anyway. I can confirm that when in 4x4 high (according to the light), the truck feels like it's in LOW range. ALSO confirm that when going 30 the tranny isn't shifting lower and the engine/gears are screaming loud similar to the LOW range typical performance.

HUBS are locked fine...i shifted in and out several times...did the reverse engagement shift...

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I am going to guess you have the E40D trans.

Usually that bracket for the shifter breaks, and the truck is stuck in whatever gear the transfer case was in when it broke.

You can go under the truck, and shift the transfer case by hand, but be sure the wheels are chocked, the truck could roll on you when you are shifting it

When think you have it in 4 High back it off one click .Bet you r going right past high to low . If shifter is broke you dont get low or high.
