ok im gonna make this story real short. my dad manages a furniture store. and the owner buys a bunch of old cars and trucks and parks them out in the field and does nothing with them. anything from ford falcons to old Caddy's to old Chebby Stepsides,, or chebby 5 window trucks. well he has had a 78 or 79 F100 Custom out there for a while i think upwords of 10 years. well ive been in love with it ever since he put it out there. ive been thinking bout my potential Cummins Swap and finding a truck for it. well the body and interior on this truck is in really good shape. surface rust but no rusted through spots. and the interior is in pretty good shape. now the suspension is probably real ugly. after sitting for 10+ years. ive thought bout if i can get him to let the truck go for free or very little cash using the body and interior and rear end and getting a suspension from a blown motor or rotting body truck and swapping it over.

here is the pics. yall think i could/should do it. for free? i almost cant pass it up if he lets it go for free.

why would the suspension be shot if the body and interior are not?

You got anywhere to put it?

I've passed up more vehicles than I care to remember, for prices I could have afforded at the time...but didn't have anywhere to park 'em.

Still don't, really...so I do my best (not very good, I must admit) not to look at stuff for sale at all.

You and me both, Ian.... I feel if I don't have a place to put it OUT of the elements, I can't even start entertaining the idea of bringing it home. Is that necessary, no, but it helps keep my wants under control.....Well, that and Bonnie...

^^In that case, if you can get it, I would.

Keep in mind, though...I live where stuff rusts. Bad. A truck body that clean is worth serious money around here, even if the drivetrain is missing and the suspension is shot. (After 10 years, I'd assume the same as you- everything mechanical will need to be gone through, at least...)

ill be swapping a different frame/suspension under it and a Cummins 4bt/C6 combo.

Why swap frames?

Just cause bushings are shot, I wouldn't toss a suspension - bushings are easy enough to replace and should be done on well used rigs anyway. Give you a chance to upgrade to polyurethane :)

I would take that truck fo sho. The bench seat looks to be in remarkable condition and that's worth a haulaway for sure!

yeah im gonna get my camera and go down there wednesday and take better pics of it. the gauges look brand new. the dash aint in to bad of shape. the door panels are pieces of wood though. haha. oh well.

Freebie 78 is like gold unless it's totally stripped. I paid $75 for a non-titled one once, and believe you me, I stripped it down to the nubs... filled my parts barn full of replacement gear I never used on my other rig. Was nice to have them as spares tho....parts for these rigs are getting harder to find everyday.
