75 F350 Build Newbie Style

So, mods, first, if you need to move this thread, I understand. I'm excited to get this going....I bought this a year or so ago and just never had the time and my wife bought me this table to build it on this past weekend and thought 5 minutes a day would be cool and it got me all excited.

I also got a Ford model engine kit for Christmas last year and it took me no time at all to build it as it was fairly easy and it also got me in the mood. I want to make an almost identical replica of my 77 Dent with this kit, so wish me luck and I'll post updates on the build.

I'm going to do the vinyl top, roll bars, lift, everything, best I can anyways.

It's a 1/25th scale 1975 F350.

Here's the first 5 minutes I spent on it last night, breaking down and separating the parts.

While I am unable to do a true rebuild (YET - I will in the future!), this model and my tinkering on my Bump will have to suffice!

Cool, thanks Ben.....I'm pretty excited about it. I'm going to take the time and money to make it look as identical to my dent as possible, down to the chrome glove box and chrome visor on top.

I found some Interco super swamper tires online (can you believe it?) that are scale to my model and am going to have to fab the lift and transfer case as this is a 2wd model. It'll be fun making the 4wd shifter and all.....I even have vinyl to put for the top like my dent.

You might be able to use RC Turck parts for the lift, axles and the rest of the drivetrain.

Wow, cool.

They're going for pretty big bucks on ebay this past year if you want to get rid of it.

I also have to mfgr my mirrors as those are aftermarket. Tailgate lights, diamond plate, tonneau cover, dual filters up front, tow hooks, and fender flares.

Should be fun.

So, as I'm taking this pretty serious.....I had to purchase a few much needed tools today. I'm glad I messed with the Ford engine model (http://www.fordtruckfanatics.com/forum/showpost.php?p=469369&postcount=482) this past weekend as it gave me some ideas of things I really need to make this a true successful build.

I bought:

-Micro clamps
-Four prong mini tweezers
-A set of hobby tweezers

I'm researching brush sets, glue, and paint.

Once I get the last bit of tools, I'm going to work on the first step, which is the engine.

My engine has a lot of chrome in it, so I'll be looking for some special chrome paint to make sure it matches.

I'm super excited about my super swampers.....I can't believe I found the exact same tires that are to scale....that's pretty wild.

As soon as this stuff comes in, pics to follow. During my lunch break, I worked on the engine block, intake, carb, and chrome air cleaner....before these parts can be painted, they all need to be trimmed from all of the plastic attached to the edges from being attached to the plastic. It's amazing how detailed this stuff is and how much work goes into making it perfect....really reminds me of Duncan's build and how detailed he's going into the grinding, powdercoatiing, etc.

Engine block, blue, intake and carb grey and the air cleaner is already chromed plastic.

Bought some paints online:

-dark blue for engine block and oil pan
-flat grey
-copper for my radiator
-aluminum
-orange

-bidding on gloss black for engine bay and drive train
-in search of flat black for spray on bedliner

-some brushes
-third hand clamp
-third hand double clamp with magnifying glass

-enamel thinner
-plastic cement

Scored these on ebay, the EXACT tire I have on my dent now.....now that's amazing...same tread, same side wall:

Just like when dealing with a real live build, as much time in prep as putting it together:

I had a few minutes at lunch and took my specialty knives and trimmed the excess plastic on the individual pieces.

Some of the holes where you put in a part are too small to work with, so I just use my pick to stretch it a little and wallah! Works perfect.

In the picture above from top to bottom the parts I prepped for paint:

air cleaner
carburetor
intake manifold
distributor
radiator hose (will be chromed like mine)
engine block

Paint, brushes, and third hands are on the way.

Looks good ken. Grab some cheap spray liner at the auto section of walmart. I've found that it is fine enough for an application like this.

What spray liner? Is this a paint?

Sorry, was on my phone... Spray bed liner. I think it's 3M brand, or something off like that. Maybe even Rustoleum. It applies very thin if you're careful.
