73-79 Fiberglass bed cover - Any ideas ?

So I'd really like to put a fiberglass bed cap on my 79 long wide. I've looked around but I can't find anyone who actually makes one specifically for the 73-79 year models. I'm told that a cover for an 80-96 will fit. Does anyone know if that's true and does anyone have any experience with these style caps ?

Again, I'm just looking for a low profile cap and not a full blown camper. I don't want one of the soft roll up styles either. I want one that I can paint to match the truck.

Thanks, Dean 479-263-3326

In my own world
I know the inside of the bed, floor, walls, and head board are the same from 73-96

Get a measuring tape out and take some measurements

I know the tailgate area changed a few times, that may be your only issue

^^^I've always wanted to have a hard cap on my 77....I have an aluminum framed vinyl covered one now that's ok....but would love to have a fiberglass one. I always thought I'd have to pay someone to custom make one...would be interested if someone found one.

You must be talking about a tonneau. Not far from me is a vacant house with a 77 with a tonneau .
Probably from the same era. I tried to buy the house (w/the truck)but the guy doesn't want to sell.

Dear valued Gaylord’s customer,

My name is Kris over at Gaylord’s Custom Trucks. The originators and innovators of custom truck covers! We recently received your inquiry on a Gaylord’s custom bed cover for your truck and I am here to help you find the right lid for your needs, as well as the best deal on it! The *ALL NEW* “OG Series” lid is a 100% CLAMP IN, smooth fiberglass tonneau with a dual shock set up that allows the lid to open and close with ease! A very strong dual scissor hinge keeps the lid sturdy while opening and closing. The “OG” comes standard Primer but can be painted to match the factory color of your truck, color sanded and buffed for the best possible paint finish. The OG also comes standard with a carpeted headliner on the underside of the cover. A dual lock system with one on either side at the rear will be locking to the bedside and keeping your cargo extra secure.

Gaylord’s also custom makes a fine product by the name of the “ California cruiser kit” – the original in bed carpet kits. Made from the same carpet under your lid, it matches perfectly and adds a real custom finished look to the bed of your truck!

We are located in southern California . You can order the lid direct via phone, we just highly suggest sending it to a business address for shipping savings. Please call in and speak with me (KRIS) or reply to this message and I will be sure to help you with any questions you may have.

Thanks,

p.s. I have attached a couple photos of lids similar to the one that would fit your truck.
