Wow, that's really a lot of sludge build up!! Would those brands really cause that or is it from the previous owner before adding some chit into the oil?!

when I replaced the valve cover gaskets, the old 351W didn't even have that crud build up.

I personally think it has more to do with a lack of oil changes. I`ve had people tell me the same thing about Quaker State, and others say their engines looked perfect after a couple hundred thousand miles of being maintained with Quaker State. I always ran Valvoline in my first truck, and when I tore that engine apart it was clean. I`ve got a 5.0 short block in my garage that has 250,000 miles on it and still has cross hatch on the cylinders and is clean. I bought it with 139,000 on it. For a while I ran 15/40 Rotella, then Car Quest or Wolfs Head 5/30 depending on my mood. But I always change my oil at 3000 miles.

Looking sharp Chris. Is your friend going to tweak the fuel curve for you once it`s running? I did read in a Super Ford many years ago that they will self learn after about 1500 miles of warm up/cool down cycles. Whether or not that is true though, I don`t know. Keep it up though, it looks good.
