4bbl, better mileage?

you may want to checkout the Holley 4160 series...these are a performer carb, but an oe upgrade....i run one on my 460 and im quite pleased with its performance and fuel mileage...a good bang for the buck as well as it wont brake the bank.priced around $280.00 and can be upgraded as well.

I looked at some Holley which Cfm? And do you have a good one I should be looking at?

Square bored will run you 250 up to many thousands.

The carb im running was PRICEY.

Like eric said, used carbs are usually junk. First thing u need is the intake, a 4bbl isnt fitting on a 2bbl intake. So get that first then pick up a carb to match. You don't need a "ford " carb. The only difference is linkages, and they should come with adapters.

I can't say bad about used carbs, I've got two that were CL buys, both have been spot on both have been Carter/Edelbrocks though. A factory QJet, I will avoid...

page 14 in the summit catalog, you will see them.the one im looking at is part #
HLY-0-80457S 600 CFM,Electric choke, single fuel inlet, fast idle adjustments,Ford auto transmission kick down capapbilities....a 750 cfm imho will not give the mileage you seek on a stock 360...in other words you dont need it unless you intend a pretty healthy cam..then there goes the mileage you seek...I run the 750 cfm on my 460 with a mild rv type cam and seeing 12mpg's under normal driving conditions with a stealth intake and a 1" spacer plate.to give you an idea...its not all in the carb itself...the higher you can get the carb from the intake the better volumetric effiency you will acheive.Think about it for optimum flow you want the air feul mixtiure from the carb to flow to the cylinders like an upsidedown twister. The stealth is a high rise design and with use of the spacer plate keeps engine heat away from the carb preventing early atomozation or disapation of the fuel mixture.hope this helps.

found that carb at summit. think i'll probably go that route. i could do an aluminum heat shield with spacers.. do stock 2bbl air filters work on 4bbls or would i need a different one?

quick suspension question for anyone. would it be okay if it ook my tie rods off and exted them with a 1/4 in thick tube. just out about 2 inches. they are too short for my tires to be able to align. that or i guess i could get that big bent piece that comes off the steering box. can't remember the name.

Measure the inner opening of the air cleaner then compare the measurement to the neck of the carb you choose...go from there.

Alright. How hard is it to change the intake?

The intake swap really is not a bad job..you may have to remove the valve covers for clearance of intake R&R....Drain anti freeze below the intake level will save you a big mess.intakes do seat well to the engine so be carefull when prying it loose....make sure you get ALL the bolts removed before prying.always pry in a upward fashion.since the dizzy is in the front, you will need to remove the intake from the rear of the distributor be carefull not to damage the distributor in the process.

Sounds easy. Will have to wait until spring unless I find a good intake and carb soon don't have a shop to work in
