460 swap??

Hey all, here's a ? Ive got an86 250, with a 460 and a C6. I hate to say it but I'm thinking of swapping for a 300. The truck is from AZ, low miles, no rust. But it is a work truck on the farm, need torque, not super hp. Plus this girl is THIRSTY! Can I swap and still use the C6?, any other thoughts? I'm looking for mounts, bell housing etc.

The C6 behind the 460, No you cannot use it, The 300 Straight 6 has the same bell housing pattern as the 302 so you will need to find another trans

Which trans will fit the 300, and will that mean a transfer case issue?

In my case my stock 4x4 C-6 trans was gutted & junk on arrival...I recieved a 2wd C-6 with the 460.I had the trans Rebuilt along with the tail shaft assemblies changed to accomodate 4x4 compatability.If you cant locate a small block version in a 4x4 you may be going the same route..

Swap in a 300i6 and a NP435 or T18 four speed.

Just remember, the 300 makes 100hp and 220tq, that 460 is putting out 245hp and 385tq. The 300 is going to feel really weak...

Not sayin you shouldn't do it. Just think about it.

Your better off doing some real good maintenance, and a nice camshaft and correct carb on the 460 and it'll get probably better mileage and for sure better torque.. And won't go through cost of changing engine mounts and perches as well as cost of swapping trans
