390 FE into a 1990?

Okay so i was thinking about my truck, as i tend to do and i have a few questions

Okay so the 429 and 460 share the same motor mounts correct?
Well it is quite common for people to swap 460's into 8/9 gen F150s right? I meen, even Broncograveyard sells motor mounts and such for the swap...
So what about ditching the 390 plan (even though i still love em) and going with a 429 Thunderjet instead...that would simplize the mounting issues.

Thoughts?

in theory, later model trucks such as yours have 460's with ZF 5 speeds or E4OD automatics. Finding one of these trucks as a donor vehicle will net you everything you need to make it work into your truck....in theory. Yes 429/460/351M/400 share the same frame perches (towers)but not the same motor mounts. 429/460 share the same motor mounts. I posted in your 2wd vs. 4wd tranny thread with a link to a guy who had a detailed thread in how he put a 390 into his '85 f150. As long as emissions nazi allows it, I say go for whatever floats yer boat. Keep in mind, "swap" specific mounts such as those from LandLproducts will work, but using stock 460 mounts will mean you need to change the perches from 302 to 460.

Agreed you cant beat a 390 BB, hell i even loved the power out of my old 360 FE. But for what you are going to have to fab to get that 390 in there is a head scratcher. I had a 460 in my 79 bronco carburated and you cannot beat that low end 460 torque especially in 4 low, pulled out stuck tractors many times.

Bogging is where it shines except for the weight, get that 460 wound up and let it go, no stopping it.

Not to be a buzzkill, but do you have to pass any kind of emissions testing to register the truck? I know here in Commiefornia you can't put an older motor into a newer chassis due to more stringent emissions standards for newer model years. The model year of the chassis determines what the standards are, not the motor. They'll let you put newer motors in older vehicles all day long, but not the other way around.

i have considered a 460 but i dont really want an EFI, what is the 4 speed that backed the 1970's 460's?

a friend of mine that i went to highschool with swapped a 352 fe into a 90 2wd with a np435.
on of his major problems was the damn driveshaft.

had to have one custom built. Other than that it was easy.
