351 W instead of 302

I looked up the thread on replacing the 300 cid with the 302 and wondered if the same thing applies to a 351 swap (moter mount and radiator swap) and how do I recognize a 351w, and is it better than a 302

a 351W will have more low end torque, be better for towing vs. 302.

has top end nearly comparable to the 302.

has nearly the same gas mileage as a 302, and lots of times BETTER mpg's, due to the low end torque to get the truck moving easier.

all brackets and radiators, engine perch's etc. are same for 302 and 351W. as is transmission..

to tell them apart measure the difference in width of the lower intake.

302 is 8.2" approximatly
351W is 9.5" app.

get a 84-87 351W HO 4bbl.. they have about 210 HP stock and have a much better cam and are already 4 bbl.. they are great performers..

thank you, I think one would be as easy to get as the other and I am going to try to get the whole vehicle instead of a piece at a time if I can. I may be able to get enough for my 4.0 and t18 to make the swap. Are the measurements for the intake for the bottom of the manifold

An easy way to spot one is if there is about a 1" space between the bottom of the head and the top of the water pump area. There is a bit of a gap on a W, no gap on a 302.

Isn't there a difference in the thermostat housing?
the 302 is like 90* or something and the 351 is like 15*?
That's the angle that the hose turns before it hits the thermostat...

It took me a while, but here`s a pic of the casting that 351w`s have that 302`s don`t.
