Here's the issue, this in the Capri but its a 302 none the less. I'm at a loss, it has an an issue with being able to completely stand on it, when I do all it does is cough and sputter and fall on its face, I can lift just a bit and it comes back to life. Tried upping the fuel pressure at the regulator will little improvement. I've swapped the carb between the big block in the truck and the 302 and both carbs function correctly on the truck and I can stand on it an easily turn the RPMs in the truck. I've tried everything I can think of and I'm plain stumped.

Thanks gents.

You happen to have any old rubber lines??? I've seen old rubber lines 1) collapse on themselves or 2) expose pin prick leaks when extra pressure/fuel is called upon.

What is the fuel pressure?
Put a gauge on it and watch the fuel pressure as you open the throttle. Sounds like the fuel pump is having trouble keeping up with the fuel demands.

I'll check it, looks like a newer Holley Blue series pump but I know looks can be deceiving.

The last time I checked the car had at least two inline clear filters, never thought there could be more...

Another thing to note, when it starts acting up the tach will go nuts a instantly peg.
Sounds like an electrical problem then. People don't realise that putting a load on the engine puts a load on the electrical/ignition system. Takes alot of power to spark under load.

So, bad coil??? just a first thought...

Sock in the tank?

Doubt it, car was originally mechanical pump equipped and the aftermarket pump on it now is externally spliced in.

Will try that too, that I have extra of, and that would cause my tach issues?

Okay, I feel like a true dunce right now, it would pop when I stabbed it and when I looked at my air cleaner it was singed (sp) then it hit me, timing. So I started twisting the dizzy and sure as chitt it improved, took it out and it still had the stumble but not nearly as bad because it'll now break the tires loose and not just chirp them. So I pull back in the drive and adjust some more and it gets better. Now I think I need to do a tune up because at idle and on decel it sounds like a miss.

Glad its nothing serious, unlike the blue puffs when I let off...

What about your ignition? Connections on the coil? Are you getting full voltage to the coil?

When you do a fuel pressure test make sure that the guage is somewhere you can see from the driver seat so you can see what it`s doing in gear at WOT.

Guess I should have read the whole thread. Where`s the face palm smilie when I need it?

It would/will do it in neutral as well, all connections look to be in good shape and glean, all grounds in place, and everything is tight. Will do with the pressure test though. Will not its running an Accel blaster coil.

Have also ask, what size carb is it? Taking it from a big cube motor and putting it on a small cube motor is not a good way to go. The CFM needs to be matched up better. Obviously, a big cube needs more flow than a small motor. If you don't have the flow cfm matched up right, the 302 will drown. The cfm needs to match the motor to get proper supply.

Also, they did use socks on the non-electric pump sumps as well, just at the end of the tube. Fairly rare to have issues with it and not have nasty varnish crud too. That is the one thing that wipes them out, old crappy gas that has been there for years.
