1993 F-350 Diesel Duelly Extended Cab - Buy or No Buy

Hi all-

I've been shopping around for a tow vehicle. I found a 1993 F-350 Duelly with 153K miles, the air lift level kit for the back under the leaf springs to level it out under loaded weight, an electric charger to the engine for cold days, automatic, clean cab, etc. Has a tow kit, the AC works great. I got it up to 40 mph (no license plate, didn't take it off the house's street) with no issues and brakes are clean. It has a new water pump, transmission less than 10K, and looks like they replaced the callipers in the front. Oh and I saw newer shocks in the front, not stock. Back likely has newer shocks too but I didn't see them.

Only problem is the thing is rusted underneath. More of a problem is the thing took a huge hit to the cab when the car port collapsed in the Winter, damaging the roof and taking out most of the windows. Passenger side door and rear windows appear intact -- everything else is cracked or removed and taped up.

The guy wants $3K. It needs a new set of fenders on the duellys (that's like $250-$500 plus paint and install), cab top needs major love, and needs about 4 windows replaced after that. KBB is saying this truck even in fair condition is about $4500. I'm thinking this is wrecked condition though, but mechanically sound.

I'll try to get some pictures uploaded tonight to add to the thread.

The rust can be an issue, and it depends how nice you want it to be. The IDI will tow most anything you hook to it, just not fast. A turbo wakes thm up pretty good, but it is getting a little bit more challenging to find turbo kits for them. 93 was the first year of factory install for turbos, and it was only an option. The 7.3 has a few issues if the maintenance is let go, but can definitely do well. It all depends on your expectations. The mechanical diesels like that are a parts price friendly diesel, but the sticker shock of the parts will get you if you are used to gasser prices. The injection pump will run between 300-600, but a full set of injectors can be had for 100-300. They are good reliable motor, just not a fast rig unless you want to really invest into them.
