1993 F-150 horrible Gas Mileage!!!

Hey Y'all,

A little while ago I purchased a 93 F-150 2 wheel drive with a 5.0. I gave it a new cap, rotor, coil, plugs and wires and it gets 7.5 mpg when driven good!! it gets old REALLY fast having to put gas in every day when gas is almost $4.00 a gallon.

Any ideas what could be causing the bad gas mileage?

I've never checked the timing...and the vaccum hoses are all good. I did also put a new air cleaner in.

Its odd because after it'll get around 19 mpg...then back down to 7 all the sudden. Could it be a oxygen sensor?

That or a clogged cat. How about a fuel filter change also?

I am thinking about cuttin the first cat off...and i should put a new fuel filter on it.

No I havent...But it still runs great!

Have you pulled codes?

Sounds like it might be in the regen mode or whatever it's called. "Closed Loop" or some such thing.
