1988 F250 Starting problems

I got 1988 F250 with a 460 big block. It won't start, all I can get it to do is click. I have replaced the starter, solenoid, battery, and the wire to starter from solenoid. The motor before this one was also a 460 and the current motor also came from a 88 f250. Everytime it clicks the starter gets 12 volts up until recently when my volt meter shows it as getting 10. I have read through these forums to try and find an answer but to no avail. I attatched a jumper cable to the negative bolt on the starter to the negative side of the battery but after trying it a couple of times the cable attatched to the battery started smoking. Also when the jumper cable wasn't connected I had the positive wire to the starter melt.

When truck is towed in fifth gear i watched the flywheel, fan and all the belts and pulleys turn. I tried attaching a battery with jumper cables to the positive and ground on the starter but nothing happen. The battery sparked when I touched the positve cable to the positve terminal on the battery but thats about it. Is it possible I got another bad starter from checkers? Im gonna try take it back today

I would say a bad starter. I got 2 or 3 in a row that would work for two or three starts then die. The cheap rebuilt starters are trash. Almost have to go to ford or rebuild it yourself to get it right.
