1987 f250 with 351 windsor

how hard is it to install a 1979 ford 351 windsor engine in a 1987 ford f250. is there any major connections that is going to be difficult to work with like any special computer or emission devices. anyone could give me some advice it would be a big help

Does the 87 have a 351? If it does, then the it will just swap. But 79 should be a 351M

i got the truck with no engine in it. all i know is it had a gas motor in it. the engine out of the 79 was swapped in some time ago, it originally had a modified.

The 351 never changed in terms of bolt pattern or engine mounts so if the truck is setup for a windsor the '79 will go in it.

not sure if it'll work with the V-belt with the '87 being serpentine system but other than that it should work...

If what Paul said is right, all he will have to do is swap the serp setup onto that block.

why would i have to swap all my v belts to serpentine belts for the motor change? i don't have a a/c system to worry about and i was going to use the old power steering pump instead of the new one.

If your swapping everything then the belts wont matter. Neither will emissions stuff because you will no longed have a ECU to deal with.

Also as long as the F250 hadeither a 302 or 351 your fine as far as motor mounts, a 460 or 444 diesel and your in trouble for motor mounts and bellhousing patterns

an 87 you didnt have to worry bout it with anything but 300I6 or 302.


the ECU that is. as in 87 351W and 460s were Carbed...

And for the record, what you're planning is illegal in most states, not supposed to swap older engines into newer vehicles...

unless they look under the hood and read the casting number they cant possibly know. its a stupid law.

Stupid yes, but a law none the less and can be big trouble if they decide to go through the hassle, especially seeing a carbureted engine when they might think it should be EFI...
