1980 F100 straight six

Hi, I'm new to this. So, try to take it easy on me. I'm only 17 and I'm not exactly sure what to do.

I bought a car and it turned out to be a lemon. So, I'm about to get a little bit of money. Around 4,000. I just bought a 1980 f-100 with a 4.9 straight six engine.
I want to give it some more horsepower, but I'm not exactly for sure what to do. So, any ideas would be welcomed. Thanks! smilieFordlogo

I agree. 300s arent power monsters anyways. What they lack in horsepower they make up in torque.

Best things for 300s is to just drive them and keep them running good.

back when I was 16-17 I had the same truck! I beat the heck out of that thing for years and it took every bit of abuse I threw at it. its the reason the lil 300 is my faveret engine to this day. I had my 80 set up with an offy intake with a carter avs carb with a set of cheap headers. the origanal 3sp overdive didn't like me so I swaped that out for a toploader 4sp out of an old 67-68 mustang, then down to a set of 4:11's that was spooled up. I shure miss that old truck for shure

Simplest things are a header, intake and small (390) 4 barrel....The 8's have more torque, the 6 just develops what it has earlier.

Thanks. That was short lived, I needed something fast, and it worked for that weekend.
