Figure 20k...but a parts list and intent would help immensely. What all are you touching??? LMC parts...OEM parts...NOS parts...DC parts??? Are you touching the rest of the drivetrain??? What kind of quality are you looking for in paint??? Driver style restore, stock restore, concourse restore or pressure washer and paint 'restore'??? If you go with pressure washer and maaco paint...you could probably get out of it for under 5-6k. If you're going to touch everything and replace with top grade parts and quality paint...you're probably talking 50k. If you need a shop to do any of the work tack on another 30-50%.

I gave up trying to figure out what a good restoration price would be because it all depends on what kind of restoration. As Ben said, there are the backyard spit shine restorations that one can do for under a few thousand and call it a restoration if that's what you want or do the frame off, touch every nut and bolt and replace with good quality parts and add all the accessory stuff if you are into that and the price gets up to the 50-60K or more mark. A good quality decent restoration will cost over 20K even if all the work is done by the owner.

Hahahahaha......just look at his resto thread and you'll understand why.....can't wait to see the finished product (if I live that long).

Buck and Ben hit the nail on the head......as most of the fellas on here know, I've been searching for the better part of the last 3 years for a "restored, frame off" dent and finally found one recently (loving it more and more each day btw smilieFordlogo).

One of my rigs was noted to have 60k (I have most of the receipts - crazy and like Duncan said, scary once you start pulling out the old calculator - $5k in a professional motor upgrade/rebuild, $7k in the paint, etc.) put into it and the other mid 20's (rebuild of motor, tranny, and tc, paint is average but still new) and it shows as the devil is in the details.

I cringe at self rebuilds when I see them unless it's something done out of a hobby for fun or for family keepsake reasons as you'll be lucky to recover .10 to .20 on the dollar if you sell it down the road.....and that may be in parts only, not your 1000's of hours of love labor AND this is regardless of the type of restoration you're doing (backyard or nut and bolt).

^^^^Agreed. I'm into mine about 16K, including purchase price, and I haven't even started on body/paint. I figure 10 - 20K for that. I have some cancer above both wheel wells which will need to be addressed.

Thank you for all your feedback. We are planning on an off frame restoration. We just finished the engine, power train and complete rebuild on rear end. All quality parts, nothing cheap going into my truck. The one thing I am looking for if anyone comes across one is a new bed for the truck with the spare tire. Generally on my restorations I go for drivability, fun and as original as possible, with only top grade. I will be going with a custom color though.

^^^Probably just be easier to buy the entire super camper special truck than searching for just the bed. Figure a good bed will run you a grand (and Ive never actually seen just a scs bed for sale) or the truck will be 2-3k. Part out the rest and scrap what you don't keep or sell.

i was thinking the same with the bed if i restore would take 100,ss of hr
my understanding is the bolt pattern and body are the same from 73-77 on the cps
i just missed the bed i wanted today to the crusher, my buddy own a scrap yard pulled it for me and his dum employee crushed it 10 min before i should up with trailer :hammer:
