1973 f-100?

Hi everyone, this is my first post here, and I have a question. How could I lift my truck? Should i do a suspension lift or body lift? I wouldn't want it to sit up way too high because it would need to be street legal. And how much money would I be looking at for this? Thanks.

First off...welcome aboard, good to have another gen 6 owner. Secondly, I'll answer your question with another question...are you just looking to fit bigger tires, or do you want your vehicle to be more capable off road? If it's the latter, suspension lift all the way. Since you don't want to go too high, a good lift for you would probably be something in the 4" area...in which case, they can go anywhere from $550 with rear blocks on up to about $1000 with springs all the way around. If you wanna go 6"...add about $200 to each of those figures, but then keep in mind you'll need to extend dshafts and brake lines. This will probably take a weekend to accomplish if you do it yourself...if you can't do it yourself, you're probably looking at another 1000 in labor.

If you just want to get bigger tires, a body lift will run you $100-150...most states it's illegal to have a BL over 3". I'm also not a fan of these due to changing the fulcrum point and stressing extended bolts. This will take you about 6-8 hours to install.

Either way, I'd also recommend swapping gears too, cuz bigger tires will cause your vehicle to become doggish. This could add another $1000 for gears and labor.

Gotta also remember bigger wheels and tires if thats what your after. Id figure another 1200 or so for new tires and wheel if just tires about 700. Welcome to the site BTW.

Body lifts are HIDEOUS!!! My '73 F-100 4x4 had a nasty 2" body lift on it when I bought it. There was actually no reason what-so-ever for the DPO to even bother because he had 33's. The 4x4's clear 33" tires with no lift. Depending on how high you want to go you could get the appropriate suspension kit that includes front coils and add-a-leaves for the rear for cheap.

IMO, body lifts look goofy. Jeffs bronco graveyard seems to have a good selection of lifts

Also, a lot of states require mud flaps if if the distance from the ground to the bumper is more than "x" inches.

I would go with a suspension lift over a body lift. You did not mention if it was 4wd, but I'm assuming it is. If it happens to be 2wd it is much more expensive to do if you do it right.

Body lifts FTL.... the only thing I would replace as far as body mounts go are your work out stockers for some newer ones. If you want to get lifted a suspension lift is the only way to go.....
