0dd ball 1991 F-450 rear gas tank question

Hi

I have a 1991 Super duty truck with a rear gas tank (behind the axle) that leaks. I pulled the tank and I need a new one. It is a Ford Tank marked FOTA-9104-CA and H242C and measures about 15 X 18 X 26. This is hemmed in left - right and front - back with cross members

Does anybody have one or know where to get one???

Rockauto does sell tanks. Most part stores should be able to get you a tank. Looks plastic. Wish mine were plastic.

Being a 450, many average parts stores likely will not have much available. You may need to look into a medium duty service sales location to get one.

(sigh) F-Superduty. Part is obsolete, application only on the F-Superduty. You'll either have to scavenge junk yards or rig another to work.

Hi, I have learned a little sense my original post. It turns out that all "Cab and Chassis" 1991 F-450s used this tank. None of the pick ups did.

It also turns out none of the auto parts stores list commercial trucks, so none of them list this tank and all of them list the F-450 Pick Up tank.

It also has an “alias” FOTZ-9002-C and it is a "19 gallon Aft Axle Plastic Fuel Tank" It is stamped with an engineering number FOTA-9104-CA. It is Obsolete and no Ford stock exists. That is really OK because Ford wanted huge bucks for it anyway.

So through this site and other questions I now know it is a common tank, used on all the F-450 "Cab and Chassis" from 1990 to 1997. One post above says he wishes he had a plastic tank – well, it exists and you can get one, if you find one in a salvage yard. I also don't think it is that hard to find or that higher valued by the aftermarket folks - so it should be reasonably cheap.

I think the reason for this tank is the commercial version has an extra frame brace that means the Pick Up tank will not fit. They strengthened the frame and that means they cut the space in half and there is no space for the standard pick up tank. The commercial F-450 is a tank. It also turns out the 450 has higher and thicker frame walls than the 350. I never knew how much tougher this truck was - it is a beast.

So my question is changing. I need a commercial truck salvage yard.

Does anybody have a good salvage yard in Southern California???
