02 brake question

I have an 02 f250 SD. I changed the front caliper but can't figure how to get the 2 spring clips in the are basically in a V shape and hooks into each pad I think for anti-rattle. Is there an easy way to get them in and will it actually hurt to no use them?

there are holes in the backing plates of the pads (on the side) that the springs fit into.
