Here's pics of the electrical connector for those who didn't know what I was talking about. It's tapped into two wires on the PCM:

It's part of the shift kit. I'm not really sure what's in the middle of it but its supposed to increase the firmness of part throttle shifts. Seems to be doing it's job :D

The B&M kit says it gives full throttle shift feel at part throttle. Im trying to find in the instructions on where it says it exactly. When I do I will post it.
EDIT: Chris beat me to it.

During regular driving, I'm not quite sure... But I can imagine that it would be better for my transmission when I'm pulling the boat.

It's better because the more long and drawn out the shift is, the MORE wear and heat build up there is in the tranny. All trannys would shift hard as hell from the factory if people didn't mind getting slammed into their seat at shifts. So, they trade off tranny performance for ride comfort to be able to sell more rigs, since thats what most people want.

I am curious as to what made you want to do this without even knowing what the shift kit was all about.

He did the shift kit for the same reason as me. E4OD shifts are slow and crappy, and eventually kill the trans itself. If my mom didnt know it, id put a shift kit into her Grand Marquis. You cant even fell that thing shift. At 30K when i do the fluid its already burnt up. 147K on orig trans. I pray it doesnt die.

Huh? Who said I didn't know what it did? I bought it because we bought a heavy boat recently and I didn't want my tranny to overheat while towing it, just like you explained in your little shift kit explanation... Why are you being an ass?

You did, or at least I thought you did...

"During regular driving, I'm not quite sure... But I can imagine that it would be better for my transmission when I'm pulling the boat."

...and I wasn't being an ass. It did however strike me as odd that you put it in without knowing why it's function is beneficial...hence the comment.

Read your own damned post again eco. You asked why it was important to have firm PART THROTTLE shifts, and that I DO NOT know. But I'd have to be a complete moron to not know why I put this kit in my truck. Let's assume for a moment that I DID order the kit without knowing what it does, the BOX and INSTRUCTION booklet have tons of writing about the benefits of using the kit. If I had known that your little "why is that useful?" question was a LOADED question I would have answered it a bit differently. I thought you really didn't know why and wanted to learn, and I wasn't about to offer a technical explanation if I don't TRUTHFULLY have one; I'm not about to go misguiding you and/or other members on this site.

What I'm really pissed off about is that you asked a loaded question like that because you were trying to make me look stupid. This is what you do, and this why I dislike you. You make yourself feel better at the cost of making others feel worse, and that's very selfish and rude.

Keep it up and you'll find that you'll get booted from this site REAL fast. FTF doesn't deal with banning its members in the same fashion that other sites do, but they WILL ban you if you interfere with the friendly atmosphere that this site is known for. Everybody is friends with one another on this website and that's what makes it BETTER than the others. If you can't get along with myself or the other members then you're not welcome here. And trust me, I speak for many people when I say that.

I wanted to do that on my dad's crown vic but the trans went before i got the chance. $1600 later we have a rebuilt trans in it. it was the 4r70w. is that whats in your moms grand marquis? if you don't put the shift kit in it, make sure you run it with mercon V.

Skand, awesome job on the shift kit. i'm glad you got it installed and working. i think this should make your ATF temps even lower. with the combo of that vented pan you have and this shift kit, your E4OD should last a really really long time.

Its a 96 Grand Marquis, so im guessin its the AODE. I think I was looking it up somewhere once. All I know is when her exhaust rots out, its going to be true dual, flowmaster 40's. Momma going to be driving in style.
