E-fan Switch

You thinking of doing an efan swap?
Yes I was thinking about it. I was watching my engine idle two days ago and it looked like the fan was hardly moving. The guy I was talking with reached down and grabbed the fan and held it for a bit and then let it go it just barely started moving. But I have not had any problems with it cooling so when I saw your post I said why not try the E-Fan.

And by the way:
Thermostat

**The thermostat's main job is to allow the engine to heat up quickly, and then to keep the engine at a constant temperature. It does this by regulating the amount of water that goes through the radiator. At low temperatures, the outlet to the radiator is completely blocked -- all of the coolant is recirculated back through the engine.

Once the temperature of the coolant rises to between 180 and 195 F (82 - 91 C), the thermostat starts to open, allowing fluid to flow through the radiator. By the time the coolant reaches 200 to 218 F (93 - 103 C), the thermostat is open all the way.

how is that recirculated coolant kept inside and not mixed with the coolant sitting in the radiator. (ie. backwash) there is nothing to block the inlet of the engine, is there?

The coolant can circulate within the motor via the thermostat bypass hose. It goes from the water pump to the intake thus bypassing the t-stat.

As far as the t-stat opening time, maybe I was a bit low on my estimation based on subford's post, but they ALL do open a bit early. How much just depends on the t-stat, how old it is etc.

Pshhh!!! I laugh at your expensive permacool fan. Mine cools just as good (if not better) and was only a fraction of the cost. If you could feel the air this thing pulls I think I'd have you convinced. It blew me away when I first hit the switch. It's really unbelievable.

Fastens down to the top rim like the Skankster's new bracket and it slides into the same shroud holes that the stock fan shroud goes into. It pushes a TON of air, and doesn't use much power to do it either. Full radiator coverage, good clean look - totally perfectly designed for what you need it to do.

The perma-cool claims 5900 cfm, but I'm not sure what the stock is rated at. I wonder what the Thunderbird is rated at. If it's more than the Taurus (and the Taurus fan moved a ton) then it's probably a really really solid fan.

I've heard numbers tossed around for the tbird fan-- around 5000cfm. There's no telling just exactly how much air it's pulling. But Rick and I were talking about that and he said he heard the clutch fans are rated to pull in excess of 10k CFM when fully locked (and brand new from the factory). That's what scared him about the swap but he and I both found that the electric pulls MORE than enough.

A couple times I have accidentally left my switch in the off position (when I first installed the taurus fan) and then I'd notice my engine getting hot. Hit the high-speed override switch and I could LITERALLY watch the gauge slowly drop back to cold. You could see the movement with your eyes-- I was amazed. Rick said he had a similar experience.

Speaking of Rick... I wish that turd would come over here and comment in this thread 'smiliedoh'

Holy crapsack, thats awesome. :D

I thought that Taurus fan was overkill, but that T-Bird fan is incredible. How did that wiring nightmare work out this time?

Oh I fixed my wiring a long time ago. Swapping this t-bird fan in place of my taurus fan was just a matter of cutting the wires to the taurus fan and resplicing with the wires on the t-bird fan. Didn't have to change anything :)

Awesome. :)

Sounds like a simple and effective swap. :)

The swap didnt take much time at all. Took a little longer cuz I had to score and drill the holes in the shroud for those brackets, and I also spent quite a bit of time cleaning on my wiring. Notice the sexy split looms? :)

I looks like you blocked the coolant from entering the TB.

How long has it been like that? Any problems with it? Any difference that you can notice in drivability?
Been like that since eh... I think summertime? No problems that I've noticed. Also didn't notice any immediate differences but I'm doing mods all the time so it's hard to keep track anymore.

One definite advantage is that I've got 1 less hose running through my engine compartment that was entirely unnecessary in a climate like the one where I live.

Clown of Death!
Does this still look s***y. Got it worked into my old shroud!!!
