Ok, I had some time to mess with this... and something is wrong in the 400 that I don't really want to deal with, especially since I have a good running 460 to put in it.One of the cylinders is puffing a fuel/air mixture out of the carb, and it likes to catch on fire. My kids thought it was...
Thanks everyone for the comments! I tried to get the 400 fired up today to drive Thomas off the trailer and into the garage, but it doesn't seem like it's going to be easy start and it's quite cold working outside. I think that it would be better to gear my efforts toward swapping in one of my...
Why is this truck named Thomas? I brought the whole family with me to buy this truck, and when I asked my two oldest kids (5 years old) what we should name this truck, they each said Thomas. I'm guessing maybe the color reminds them of Thomas the Tank Engine who they watch nonstop. This '68...
Hey all, I used to be on here every day, then I sold my old trucks (a '78 and a '79) along with their extra parts and kinda disappeared. Yesterday I bought a '68 F100 off Craigslist and now I'm back. The '68 needs some work, but overall I really like it! The truck was born with a 360 and 3...
.Ok, I have pretty much no experience working on the insides of an engine. I replaced head gaskets on my '95 3.8 Mustang once, that's about it. I don't want to screw this up...I'm going to swap the cam, lifters, and intake on my '70 460. I may also want to smooth the bumps in the exhaust...
Thanks to all who have replied, and thanks to Bill for the information and history of these engines. I've purchased a third complete 460 from a '78 Lincoln. This one has the metal can (saginaw?) type power steering pump. Still though, even with three different 460's to choose from, I still...
FWIW - What I have learned about my motor mounts... I knew they were a conversion mount to put a 460 in a late 70's 4x4 F-Series, but I thought the entire package was made of custom parts. It is actually a stock 351M/400 rubber mount that bolts to an adapter plate that appears to be cut from...
.Ok, I happened to stumble onto something... these appear to be stock 351M/400 mounts that bolt to the 460 adapter plates and I can buy stock replacements locally for about $20 a pair..
.These are some 460 swap mounts that were in my 77.5 F250 4x4. They bolt to a steel plate that bolts to the block. Does anyone know what brand they are?
.I have 2 460 engines, one runs and the other needs rebuilt. I'm putting one in my '93 Ranger along with a built C6. Headers will be 2" primary into a 3.5" collector. The running one is a D0VE-A block with D0VE-C heads. The not running one is from a '69 Lincoln and has C9 heads.I plan...
.I'm thinking of buying an '87 F350 that has a 460 and 4 speed manual transmission. It's a 2wd regular cab dual rear wheels, unknown gear ratio. From what I've read the engine is rated at 220hp and 360ft lbs of torque, which is far from impressive to me. What can be done to help this poor...
.1979 F150 with factory A/C, wanting to convert to heat only.Is the plastic "Y" piece of ductwork that goes from the dashboard (where it blows on the windshield) down to the heater box the same for an A/C truck and a heat only truck? Is there any type of ductwork connector that I need to...
.So they take away PM'ing if you mention this site?I have two accounts over there, and one has the PM abality and the other doesn't. I wish I could send a message to myself... I could create an awesome message for them to read..
Linky, then look in the side bar, it says for 9" rears also -> http://www.mustangandfords.com/techarticles/127_0310_ford_differential_builders_guide/8_inch_light_duty.html.
From the posts above, it seems that there may be no plug at all. If this is the case, which I don't see how, where would someone put the hose for the pump?It has to have some way to add oil after the 3rd member is bolted in?.
There was a short bed for sale a few months ago near where I work at. It needed some work, but was in fairly good condition. I don't care much for the late 70's shortbeds, I think it's something to do with the rear axle placement... it seems too much forward.
.Nope, it's a long bed.It could be a short bed though... (In an attempt to be somewhat comical, I was going to insert some of the cutting and welding smilies here, but it appears as though we don't have any, so you'll have to use your imagination)..
Put the 460 in your blue truck. After my 5.0 is running, I'll trade ya.Or for that red/white Bronco YelloThumbUp (My '79 needs quite a bit of bodywork)
.Naw, the '79 is going to keep the 302 since it's already there and I've given up on the 460.I'd like to put a 5.0 HO from a Mustang in the Ranger... but I've never read anything about the turbo 2.3 deal. I'm on a couple Ranger forums now, so I guess it's time to start reading... maybe...
.Actually, there's more to the story, I guess...My original plan was to find a 460 for the '79 F150, and find a Ranger for the 302. I couldn't find either a 460 or a Ranger for the price I wanted, so neither project was possible. I gave up searching and decided to put the 302 in the '79...
Eh, a few reasons I guess...I already had the car with the 5.0 and AOD, and couldn't find a running 460 at a decent price.I want something that is easy to drive by anyone, like my Dad, girlfriend, etc... the manual choke in my '78 confused them.I plan to drive it 84 miles a day, so the...
 :D :D Alright, alright... I do appreciate the compliment, and thank you, it means a lot to me. I just didn't want to string you along expecting a wheelie poppin frame off restoration or something crazy. I'd love for my truck to someday look as nice as yours in your sig.460? About 4...
If only there was enough money in the budget..."Awesome" may be a bit exaggerated. If it just turns out nice and clean looking I'll be thrilled. I'm trying to build this thing as inexpensively as possible, so don't expect anything too crazy..
.Ok, I made some (boring) progress on this swap. I decided to scrap the A/C and put in a "heat only" box, so I took out the dash and yanked out all of the old A/C stuff. I need to fab up some sort of plate to fill the hole where the A/C was. I may start on some of the wiring after the...
Yep, that's it... my old '79, the only one I have left after selling my '76, '77, and '78. That cardomain page is kinda old, I really need to update it.You don't wanna trade me right now... the truck is in a million pieces and doesn't run, so it's hard to push, lol. I replaced the grease spot...
