You're thinking of the driveshaft u joints which do need to be aligned.

You know you're driving a Ford when the doors aren't falling off and the body doesn't dent just from looking at it wrong!!

Getting the trim off the bed may be easier, but getting it off the front clip looks like you'd be better off removing the fender to get at the inner nuts. PITA This trim would be a painter's nitemare to R and R, unless he just taped it off and left it, which probably happens a lot.

Here's one of my dent projects I picked up recently. Needs an engine and trans and the shocks rebuilt, but a great foundation to start from for going fast in the desert.

Retubing a driveshaft is not a big deal. Shouldn't be any more than $100. Many muffler shops do driveshafts, so don't sweat it and the driveshafts are the last thing you do once the swap is done and you know the lengths you need. All kinds of info about your project out there, but you have to...
