Thanlks for the welcome. And for the Marlin on the floor is a .30-30. Good eye though. I just acquired over the summer from my grandfather on my mother's side. The rifle already picked up 2 deer in two trips. Man is that thing accurate.

I realize .30-.30. I was wondering about Model...as I posted mine is 336RC...I don't know of any else around her with the RC. They all are A, C, W.
The # is on the left side of the barrel right under the rear sight.

OOOOOOH ok...I gotcha now. To be honest I don't know what it is, the rifle is at home (5 hours away) right now. But I'll give my dad a call and see if he can't wrangle up a model number for me (you).

No biggie Ben.....I just don't want to be "alone" or "special" and like I mentioned your's looks so much alike. I realizeall the 336's do except the SS of course!

Well I'll be...just got off the phone with my dad, and he said it was a 336RC. He wasn't too happy digging through 100+ firearms in 5 cabinets...but I told him it was important...haha. He said it read like this:

Marlin Firearms Co. New Haven, Conn, USA
Micro-Groove Barrel
870-Model 336 R.C. 30-.30

Now after doing a quick search, it appears the letter designation seemed to be a level of craftsmanship on the stock...am I even close to being right?

Thanks for the welcome Bill. Took a look at your collection and looks quite nice. I actually still have the pic of your 1895's that you sent me saved to my computer...haha.

I don't think it had issues to the stock because the 380 had the same stock.
it's not an 870....it's an 1870 version. Mod# is after.

Whoops...sorry, forgot the 1 in 1870. As far as the model # is concerned, I realize that...my dad just said there was a hyphen between 1870 and the word Model.

So it looks like we have the same rifle then huh? I was never a big fan of lever actions, but this gun is doggon accurate, it's hard not to love it. However, it usually is just a back up, or extra gun my brother in law uses. I prefer my Brownings.

Welcome nice to have ya

UTf...you need a kick in the knut bag.....Levers are cool. Slows you down and gives pause for the next shot.
OK...that's how I see It.

HAHAHAHA...I just spit Gatorade on my screen...a kick in the nut bag huh? Not saying levers aren't great, I just prefer rifles of the bolt variety. On top of that, I never trust folks with levers unless I know how responsible they are with firearms...something just doesn't sit right with me that you need to half way cock the hammer in order for the gun to be safe. Just how I feel. Now they definitely do bring a cool factor, but I don't feel it's the right action of gun for a beginner.

We differ.....I'd bury a bolt action in a litter box. I just don't like 'em.

No worries about that...I be we both have the same opinion on gun control though...Gun Control defined- hitting what you aim at.

Thanks man...it's good to be over here. And thanks for the compliment on the guns...believe it or not, that's probably only 40% of the guns I have, and probably only 15% of the guns in the house.
