Woe Is Me!

I'm taking a look at a '79 XLT one owner that was restored from the ground up about two years ago. The owner is asking $10,000 and it is about 6 hours from where I live. It does have the 351M, which is okay with me.

Doing the body work and paint on my truck would be about $10 - 15,000, so I have a conundrum!

I've always said if you don't have a sick sentimental attachment to the rig you want to restore, just buy one...you'll be time and money ahead. Buy somebody else's so they take the hit. Caveat to that though is, everyone's definition of 'restored' is different. Some that's putting lipstick on a pig and just going with bondo and Maaco special, others is a frame off rotisserie nut & bolt job. But if all that checks out and is the style of truck you're looking for, if asking price is 10k, see if he'll bite at 7500 and move one.

I'm afraid not. This is an older guy that doesn't like the phone, let alone anything else. I would have to travel to get a closer look. It is a listing in the local weekly sales paper. He is the original owner.

Agreed. It would have to be at least as good as the one I got in 2003, since I'm not a body/paint person. And yes, "Restored" can be overrated.

Wow....they still print newspapers? :wasntme:

His grandson or someone younger in his family needs to help him sell this thing or he'll never sell it.....or won't get what he can out of it...BUT if you get it, than I don't want him doing it so you can get a greater deal! Something that hasn't been on the interweb could be a great find! And you know he probably hasn't gotten a huge response from the ad.
