mine thread is gone.. and its leaking.. now.. i just did a tune up yesterday im gonna drain the oil in a clean container and refill its ok to do that right?

nway whats is the size of the bolt? so when i go buy a new one what size should i ask for?

when i bought a new one for my old truck i just told them what i had at the parts store - they grabbed the right one.

i'd say draining into a clean container should be fine. just make sure its really clean. if it was me, i'd spend the money on new oil (even though i hate to), because if something happened i'd be kicking myself over trying to save $15

I'd put clean in but u can run through filter . All the more threads shaving the new plug and old plug make will be minimal . But At least run through cloth or filter . The $15 for new is cheap compared to motor.

I have the oversized plugs on shelf . I run into this quite often .

If the drain plug is stripped, better take a look-see at the threads in the oil pan...usually when one is stripped, so is the other.

Parts stores sell oversized drain plugs...there's #1 oversize, #2 oversize.

These plugs cut their own threads in the oil pan, and if a #2 won't work, the oil pan has to be changed.

1990/91 5.8L's (351W) could have two different drain plugs AS ORIGINAL. One is metric, the other one isn't and fits dang most every Ford engine from 1954 thru 1991.

If metric, the bolt head has a large M on it.

Doesn't really matter tho if the pan threads have been compromised, the oversized drain plugs are universal and will fit anything.

As original Both are available from Ford.

Metric drain plug: F75Z6730BA / No size listed in the parts catalog.

MSRP: $8.32 / FTFpartsguy.com price: $5.99
--------------------------------------------
Non metric drain plug: D6TZ6730A = 1/2" -20.

MSRP: $4.28 / FTFpartsguy.com price: $3.08
-------------------------------------------
NOTE: If NAPA sold you the wrong drain plug, and it's larger, and you screwed that into the oil pan...the threads prolly have been compromised.
