upper and lower ball joints

New Shoes......
OK, just paid out over $650 to the ford dealership for the blown sparkplug on my 2000 F250 crew cab, and found out all my ball joints are pretty worn, after the over $900 quote from them, I got the parts, and the seals for about $200 and rented the tool, but my "trusty" chilton's manual, says nothing on the ball joint replacement, except 'hah' "take it to a mechanic" ???

I've dont this before on 2 wheel drive, but with this, I dont want to mess it up, I've turned many wrenches, so if anyone has a shop manual or directions I can follow I would apprecate it... it may warm up to 35 today, so a good day to do it...

thanks!

The biggest issue will be getting the axle out first. After the axle is out, its the same as a 2 wheel (somewhat)

ok, anyone got any other ideas to remove the steering knuckle? the lower ball joint is frozen fast, its been soaking in pb blaster for a week, and I've broken 2 3" 3 jaw pullers, ( this was suggested to use in another forum) and cannot pound it out, and no pickle fork will work ( too small)

I'm about ready to throw in the towel on this one!

I remove the nuts for both ball joints, remove the tie rod end, then, using a BFH. beat on the side of the knuckle that the ball joint "stem" goes through.

Nope, of the hundreds I've done, none have broken. Take the tie rod end loose so you'll have more room to swing the hammer.
