transfer case problems

ive got a 93 f150 with transfer case problems. its a BW 1356. i also have a 89 f150 but its gotta BW1345 transfer case....rather than break into the 1356 for a rebuild i would rather just replace it with the 1345 to get me by for a while....if that will work. ive done some research but cant really find anywhere where it says that the two can be interchanged....the only differences that i see between the two is that the 1345 has a fixed rear output yoke and the 1356 has a slip yoke...also the 1345 has a speedometer cable and gear assembly attached to it...please correct me if im wrong tho

Yeah the 93 isn't going to have the speedo gear, they switched the VSS to the rear axle and combined it with the RABS sensor starting in 93.

As for the yokes on the rear of the case... Unless you plan on modifying the driveshaft to accept the fixed yoke, you'll have a lot of work to do to the tcase to make it work with your current driveshaft. Here's what the inside of the 1356 looks like:

What exactly is wrong with the 1356?

Oh and welcome to FTF! :wavey:

So the truck gets it's speed from the axle...shouldn't matter if the t-case has a place to connect a cable, right? Just plug the hole and call it good.

Would it be possible to swap driveshafts from the '89 so it would work with the older t-case, too? I'm thinking the trucks would have to have the same wheelbase, and even then I don't know if it would work. Anybody?

Yes you can plug the hole on the tcase and the truck will just use the RABS sensor that is already on your rear axle YelloThumbUp

As for the swapping the driveshaft... As long as the wheelbase is the same amongst the two trucks it SHOULD work... Best I know, I don't think they changed the flange connector on the pinion between these two generations so the rear of the shaft should just bolt right up.

The only thing that I'm not sure about is whether or not the bolt pattern is the same between the 1356 and the 1345. Somebody else should be able to answer that question.

the oil pump retainer stripped from the molded grooves on the inside of the housing.....i dont see why the 1345 wouldnt work if i used the driveshaft off my 89 also...bolt patterns match on both the pinion flange and the transmission extension on my 93

thanks for the help!! talk to yall soon....but hopefully not too soon!! lol

or the "I have a picture of everything" guy.

(good work by the way, pics are always helpful)

Just wondering if you did the transfercase swap and how did it go? I'm looking at putting in a BW1345 in mine.

Holy old thread Batman. They will swap. For that matter you can take an NP 205 out of a 70`s truck and throw it in there. It`ll bolt right up to the trans. As for the 13-45, you MAY have to modify the shift linkage, and the driveshaft depending on whether or not the 13-45 has a bolt on rear driveshaft.
