Trans swap

I have an 89 F350 cab and chassis
5.8L with Trans code K and Axle Code 39

I need to improve the gas mileage. What trans can I install? I am willing to do a manual transmission swap out (personally, I think real trucks have manual trans).

I will have to do this in my driveway without the use of a garage or machine shop. So, bolt up conversion is preferred.

What do you use the truck for? You could look into changing out the gears in the rear end.

according to your coding you have provided..

its an E4OD trans and 3.55 gears

in a F350.. i think this the best combo for ya with a Windsor.. a ZF5 would be a swap that could work. but i dont think its worth it.. you'll get about same gas mileage except on interstate..
