Trans issues

My mom has a '00 X, XLT, V8, AWD.... Anyway lately it's started to act up when in overdrive like its not sure it wants to be in OD and kinda jerks/slips or whatever it would be called...

I know it is trans related but IDK what to look into for a fix, is it something that's a little part or is it something that requires a trans replacement/rebuild...

it'll do it cruising, usually on any incline...

Is it not going into 4th gear or is the converter not locking?

When I'm driving in OD it feels like it's trying to down shift but only for a split second, so much that I'll drop it out of OD until I know I'm on flat ground...
