Towing with Dent

I was wanting to know what size enclosed cargo trailer would be good to tow with my 74 F250? It is a Crew Cab Short Bed with 360 & T18 with currently 257 rear gear but I am changing it back to the 350 gear. I am looking at a enclosed cargo trailer that I can tow easily with no problem & still have room in it with a 69 Mustang Convertible in it. I am planning to use the trailer to move with in the coming months I have bout 1 room of stuff & that bout it. I am planning to move from WV to NV over a 2,000 mile trip. Also what should I add to the truck to help with the tow it currently has a brake controller in it.

Trailer, I can't really help you on...just make sure it can handle the weight you'll throw at it. Not sure your method of towing, but hopefully you're not bumper ball towing, so a good weight distributing hitch would be a good investment. As for what can you do to your rig...a nice thorough tune up. A tranny cooler, deeper oil and tranny pan, maybe an overflow tank...things that will help keep your rig cool. At the very least, a thorough brake job, if not going to a 350 brake swap. Beyond that, just making sure everything is in good mechanical condition.

Make sure the trailer has Working Brakes.

The problem with these trucks was stopping them unless you also had a 351M under the hood.

You guys are brutal...smog up a 460 or SB to the same specs and see how well they perform.

Freewheeler..............Exactly !

The FRESH 351M was capable of 140 HP with low Torque numbers.

oooooooooooo!

Really not trying to turn this in to a debate in this guys thread, but those numbers were also smogged...and for some reason the 300 is revered as a towing/torque/stump pulling monster, but the 351M puts out more torque...given it has 2 more cylinders...but the numbers don't lie. So why the double standard? Torque is torque. There's only a 51 ci difference between a 300 and 351, but there's 109 between a 351 and 460...of course an unsmogged 460 will outperform. Anyway, sorry for the tread jack to the OP.
