Towing question...

The King Ranch is now up for sale and I plan on purchasing something older (and less expensive) to tow an occasional boat or two a few miles at a time. I'd mostly be pulling 20-30 foot boats, mainly pontoon or cabin cruiser style.

Question is: if I were to get something like a 95 F-150 5.8 4x4 auto with air bags in the rear, what could I expect to be my weight limit? How well will the engine/transmission hold out on short spurts of highway pulling?

Air bags do nothing to increase your capacity....in fact, they can cause the frame to crack above them over time.
Without knowing the specific combo it would be hard to guess at, but I couldn't see it being rated to tow more than 7000# ish.....just a guess mind you.

I'd guess 6-7000 lbs

A 250 would be much better

3.73 or 4.10 gears would be good. If its an E4OD I wouldn't worry about it. They are good trannys

Depending on gearing the 5.8 will be comfortable around 6000#. At 7000 my engine starts letting me know there's a lot of weight behind it. And mind you I've got 4.10 gearing.
