Tired of pushing my truck

For something like the 6th time in the last two weeks I have had to push my truck off the road. Wish I could just get this fuel problem solved and over with. I think I have it pinpointed now to the rear tank and the tank selector valve being my issue but I don't even have time to fix it whick sucks. Had to go out late night after work and close off my fuel line coming from both tanks run an extra line into my 5 gal gas can I strapped in the bed. Least it worked enough to get it back to the house until I have time for it. Just tired of it is all. Sorry everyone just needed to vent I guess.:headbang:

I am pretty sure it is just my rear tank looks like the original one. My front tank is so brand new it had not even seen gas until I put some in it after I aquired the truck. m78 I know the manual transmission trick with the starter unfortunately I have not bypassed the clutch saftey switch yet. Thanks for reminding me of that though.

Well after much kicking and screaming with this truck I finally figured it out after it left me on the side of the road a few times again. So I took out my rear tank and fuel tank selector valve from the fuel system both of which had rust in them and hooked up to just the front tank only. I then cleaned out the fuel line from the outlet side of the pump to the carb as well as shortned it since there were a couple of extra loops zip tied underneath the truck. This provided a more direct flow so the pump didn't have to work so hard. I have had it out on the road a few times since and it seems to be working ok for now. Time will only tell I guess.

This is the way these trucks get, unfortunately. They take care and time to keep road worthy, and so many of them are parked and neglected. With out going through and basically doing a full resto, you can check a few things before you go. But most of the bugs have to be worked out over time.

That said, this whole post even applies to cars brand new off the lot.... Its just that the dealership pays to fix it instead of it becoming our headache...

When you get into vehicles with this many years on them. You either pay and buy one that has been meticulously done. Or you spend the money and time to have some one do it for you... or you do it your self, spending the money the time and doing it because its something that you enjoy and love.

If you don't really love these trucks, its not worth it. Because you almost never get back the money you put into it, and you never get the time back...

That said, even if you do love the trucks and enjoy working on them. It can become frustrating to spend all your time working on it, and have it keep breaking down on you... Been there done that.

You are definetly right about the frustrating part especially since this is my daily driver right now. Some days I do enjoy working on it and other days I wanna just beat it with a hammer. We will see if it will at least keep going until I get my income tax money in the begining of the new year and then I will put a little into it to make it better.

Apparently I spoke too soon because once again I had to push my truck off the road. I am about tired of doing this. Looks like it is my fuel pump this time. It runs but it does not want to pump up to the carburator all the time and I know there is fuel becuase the tank is full and if I remove the line and drop it underneath the truck it will siphon out and if I turn the key on it will pump. But as soon as I pull it back up the carb it won't make the uphill trip consistantly. Not sure what else to do other than change the pump tonight when I get off work. Getting almost frustrated enough to either sell it or burn it to the ground. Anyone have any ideas before I do either??

Well changed the pump last night and BAM!!! got some wicked fuel pressure. Now I have to reset the timing and readjust the carb now that it has the proper fuel pressure it runs a little better too. I'll knock it out tonight and it should be tip top. Thanks all for the replies.
