Oh the "joy" of having a carburetor. Well, it's actually not that bad, but seems like I'm always turning a screw here and adjusting that there to find that glorious sweet spot where all us FTF's without EFI want to be, lol. This time I think I really have it :suspicious:

I do a winter tune and a summer tune...so I touch the carb twice a year...unless there's something seriously wrong. I figure the 3hp and .25mpg increase isn't worth stressing over that ultimate sweetspot year round. As long as I'm pulling max vacuum and idling where I want to be, I'm happy.

Even a small vacuum leak can play hell with a carburetor. :)

I bought a hand vacuum pump kit for testing vacuum systems.
Between that stuff and some repairs, fixed my old '75 right up!

The small can-of-tomatoes rusted out on me and except for a
couple years in Sacramento it's been in the desert. Soldered it
up and that didn't last long so I replaced it with a plastic ball...

And since I took the small vacuum can out from in front of the
ignition module and since it was blocking the radiant heat from
exhaust manifold, I moved the ignition module...

...that wasn't an easy job by the way. ;) LOL

It was tricky as anything to get the thing to fit in that space
with the hood closed. Weird sounding but true. You can see
where I filed-on the box. Whether that was needed or not, it
was part of the process.

Had a '67 VW Bug that was mostly just a toy, taught kids how
to drive in it (mine, neighbors and friends) and the oxygenated
gasoline (just in the fall here) would mess with it and neither
simple adjustments or jet changes (Dellorto) would get it to run
all the way right, it sucked. :/

ps- Got to where I use 3/16" and 1/4" etc sized fuel-hose for
vacuum lines instead of the cheap "vacuum hose" stuff.
YMMV? ;)
