thoughts on the "Certified Ford Tech Help Forum"

link

i'm not sure how i feel about that section and wanted to hear some other opinions...

1) seems like we would want all the questions in the best forum possible. the subtitle for the forum is "Got a mechanical problem or question about your Ford Truck? Post it here for answers." i think most of the questions people ask that aren't in "general forums" are about their truck. if i have an engine question, do i post it in the tech help, or in my engine family's forum? seems like we end up with content scattered all over the place. if i'm searching for a topic, i want to select my generation's forum, or my engine's forum, not one of those AND the tech help forum.

2) i don't have access to post to it. obviously not a huge problem - i assume the "more mechanical" people do have access to post. i definitely don't fall into that category. but i had a question/something to add to a post in there, and i couldn't do that. the question isn't important, but if i wanted to ask it, i'd have to put it in a different forum, and in the end we have the same topic in 2 places (see #1)

agree/disagree?

The purpose of the "Certified Ford Tech Help Forum" is so users can ask a question, get an answer, and not have guys like me muddy it up making all sorts of jokes, or other people hijacking it to make it a debate.
THAT is why you cannot POST to it, and the posts you DO see are pretty much only certified techs or admin. To this end, if you have a real head-scratcher of a problem, Yes, you post it there.f
Conversely, you don't post questions there, like, "I'd like to get your opinion on "XYZ", since we don't like wasting that space that is reserved for serious answers.
if you feel you have something to add, you can always send a PM to Vince or whichever tech is handling the issue. These guys love to help, and actually, this process also streamlines their time; They don't have to surf every Gen or other forums to answer questions.
Also, if you do feel you have something useful to say about the subject, there's no reason you can't start a thread about it in the respective generation's open forum! (as you said) I mean, there's nothing wrong with two threads being there. just more of a chance for it to be read.
I hope this at least begins to answer you... and Im glad you asked.

Although I have never used the "Certified Tech Forum" (that I can remember anyways) I like the idea of ONLY techs being able to answer. Like Tom said it saves the OP from smart asses like me that have no business turning a wrench let alone telling someone else how to do it posting up some YO MAMA joke in the middle of someone trying to save their engine.

I do see an issue down the road as this forum grows AND WE ARE A GROWIN that this sort of duplicate thread stuff may create an undue burden on the equipment.

P.S. Yo mama so dirty she has to creep up on bathwater.

just had an idea...
what if when the issue is resolved, the techs/mods can move the thread to the right forum (generation, engine, etc)

it's not necessarily so i can comment on it, just so that all the data is in one logical place, not one and maybe another.

Tom and I were talking about this on AIM and I think that's a good idea. My vote is in ;)

That's good... Kind of like "Filing" it, lol...

Regardless of that, though... Everyone should feel free to be able to post a secondary discussion on it for the time being, and then later, when there IS a solution, the two could be merged.

Well the problem with moving things out of the tech forum when they're done is that it leaves nothing in there. It makes the forum look inactive and takes away credibility from the techs.

If we let everyone post at will in there then it really isn't Certified Ford Tech help.

For the moment Tom's reply has the best suggestions in it.

i agree with that section to an extent. I personally hate went my threads get hijacked or someone adds their two cents and which totally throws my whole thread down the tubes.

But there are some knowledgeable people on this forum that are not techs, and i would love to hear their opinion. If the hijacking would cut down a bit then there wouldnt be a need for it.

Also there are post in that certified area that i know the answer to or have the ability to find out their problem, and i cant post. So should i tell em through a PM?

Thats my dollars worth tho.

If you know the answer to a problem or would just like to offer up your two cents, then PM one of our two tech-moderators: blacksnapon or d-kuzman. They will look it over and post it into the area as they see fit.
