Third gear problems

Had "the tank" out for a drive today, Idles fine start to drive and through first and second it is perfect once i shift into third it starts to sputter and spit, stuff in the clutch and rev it and it runs perfect. What could be the possible problem. I am thinking carb, any suggestions where to start ????

I'd think the cab could be a safe place to look, but I'd also wanna know what kinda condition your spark plugs, plug wires and distributor are in as well. And on the outside chance you're catching the beginning phases of a worn timing chain, get a timing light on there and see how much it bounces around.

Distributor mechanisms

Vacuum advance seized or diaphragm torn which affects timing.

plugs all look good but changed em anyway new wires and distributer cap and rotor button. Took her for a spin and she was good. Also picked up a set of new 31x10.50's off a guy today for 350 buck and just mounted them up. Wiring up id lights tomorrow and off for inspection she goes
